    Abstract:

Four glycosides, (2R)-2-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-2H-1,4-benzoxazin-3(4H)- one (1), (2R)-2-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-4-hydroxy-2H-1,4-benzoxazin-3(4H)-one (2), pinoresinol-4-O-β-D-apiosyl-(1→2)-β-D-glucopy-ranoside (3), and uridine, were isolated from the roots of Baphicacanthus cusia (Nees) Bremek. All these constituents are reported from this plant for the first time. The presence of benzoxazinoids (1 and 2) is in agreement with the anti-inflammatory effect of this plant.
