Abstract:The genus Schizostachyum from China is thoroughly studied and revised. Comparing with the related genera, the author suggests that Schizostachyum should include Dendrochloa Parkinson, Leptocanna Chia et H. L. Fung, Neohouzeaua A. Camus and Teinostachyum Munro, and the genera Pseudostachyum Munro and Cephalostachyum Munro, which were included in Schizostachyum by R. E. Holttum and W. D. Clayton & S. A. Renvoize, should be considered as distinct genus respectively. Based on the structure of pseudospikelet, tw...

Abstract:A new species of Sonneratia(S. paracaseolaris Ko, E. Y. Chen et W. Y. Chen) is described from Hainan; S. hainanensis Ko, E. Y. Chen et W. Y. Caen is transferred to Section Pseudosonneratia. A key to the species is given.

Abstract:Current situation of studies on floristic geography by using mathematical methods in integrative analyses of floristic abundance and floristic resemblance, on classifications of floristic elements and floristic units are briefly reviewed. The theoretical and pracdcal problems in such studies that are in need of solving are discussed.

Abstract:Litterfall, standing litter, and decomposition of litter leaf of Heishiding subtropical forest were studied for one year. Field samples were taken every three months. The seasonal dynamics of the nutrient return of litter leaf was analysed, and a frame of nutrient flux from litter leaf to the soil was founded quantitatively in south subtropical evergreen broad-leaved forest in Heishiding. The main results were as follows: 1. The standing litter leaf was about 3.078t. ha-1 the average production of litte...

Abstract:Anatomical features of the pericarp of Cornus officinalis Sieb. et Zucc. are reported. The exocarp contains only one layer of epidermal cells. The outer part of mesocarp is composed of 3 - 4(5) layers of collenchyma cells which always contain tannin, and the inner part are parenchyma cells, tannin cells as well as eight collateral vascular bundles. Tannin cells are scattered in group or singly among parenchyma cells. Volume of tannin cells is obviously bigger than that of parenchyma cells. Tannin in cells i...

Abstract:A study on the structure of mature anther and pollen grain of rioe is conducted with both GMA and Epon 812 semi-thin sections by using light microscope; meanwhile, the compositions of wall materials and ergastic substance of cells are tested with different histochemical methods. The isolated tapetal membranes are studied by using both light microscope and electron microscope. It is demonstrated that anther wall and pollen wall of rice have the general characteristics of Gramineae. There are silicious grains...

Abstract:The nitrogen-fixing activity of blue-green algae Anabaena 7120 treated by low temperature was markedly declined with increase of NaCl concentration in medium under NaCl stress. When the preincubation of the algae cells was done in dark before experiment for 24 hours or in presence of photosynthetic inhibitors, such as DNP and CCCP, a synergetic great inhibition of nitrogen-fixing activity of Anabaena treated by low temperature under NaCl stress was observed. Nitrogen-fixing activity of Anabaena influenced b...

Abstract:Seed aging involves many changes, such as, enzyme activities, integrities of membrances and nuclear acids and others, which result in the loss of seed viability finally, but these can not explain the mechanism. This paper deals with changes of proteins in cotyledonless embryos of peanut (Arachis hypogaed) seeds with various treatments by means of two dimensional gel electrophoresis. The results indicated that a new protein (pI 6.2, MW 10 KD) appeared in the dry aged cotyledonless embryos, which did not exis...

Abstract:lppm Nd3+ promoted the α-amylase activity induced by gibberellic acid at concentrations from 10-9 to 10-7 mol/L in, embryoless. wheat seed The activity of α-amylase in the seed treated with lppm Nd3+ and 10-8 mol/L GA3 was 70% more than that just treated with GA3. Nd3+(lppm) did not induce α-amylase activity and did not affect the enzyme activity in vitro, but it shortened the stagnant time of GA3 action. It abo decreased the electroconductivity of the medium in which the embryoless seeds were cultured.

Abstract:Isolated sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas Lam.) leaf cells and spinach (Spinacia oleracea L.) intact chloroplasts were used to study the effects of photorespiration on phosphate metabolism during photosynthesis. The results were as follows: 1. Sweet potato leaf cells had a lower optimum Pi concentration for photosynthesis in the reaction medium with 21% O2 concentration than that with 2%O2 in which photorespiration was inhibited(Fig.l). 2. With 21% O2 concentration, the uptake of 32Pi by sweet potato leaf ...

Abstract:Cymbidium sinerse(AndT. ) Willd. were cultivated hydroponically and used vermiculite as cultured substrate for several months in 5 levels of NaH2PO4 following phosphorus starvation treatment in order to find the most suitable concentration of phosphorus for their growth and development. The results indicated that NaH2PO4 at 0.20 mmol/L was the most beneficial to the growth of leaf bud. After leaf expanding, the optimum concentration for the growth of one-year-old leaves and for flowering was 1 mmol/L NaH2PO...

Abstract:Under conditions of various levels of N,P,K with 0,0,0, 2,2,2, 4,4,4 and 4,2,2, 2,4,2, 2,2,4 grams, supplied in soil of per pot (vol. 10 L.) before transplanting, the tiller number, grain yield and 32P, 14C distribution in three rice varieties "Zhu-Xiang-ZhantZXZ),"Hei-You-Zhan(H YZ) and common rice cultivar "Shuang - GUI-36"(SG36) were studied. Odorous rice "ZXZ"had more tiller number at every level of NPK and its roots absorbed more 32P which concentrated in tillers under the conditions of high, middle le...

Abstract:Stillingia oil and vegetable tallow were extracted from the seed of wild and cultivated Sapium sebiferum Roxb., their fatty acid compositions were analysed by GC/MS. The results showed that the fatty acid composition of the cultivated plant was similar to that of the wild one. Palmitic, oleic, stearic and linoleic acids were found in the vegetable tallow; besides these, linolenic acid as well as two unusual acids, 2,4 - decadienoic acid and 8 -hydroxy-5, 6-octadienoic acid, were found in the stillingia oil....

Abstract:Copy number of cloned repetitive DNA sequence pRRD9 has been determined within the genus Oryza, including 15 cultivated rice (7 belonging to Oryza sativa L. Japonica, 8 belonging to Oryza sativa L. Indica) and 16 wild rice entries (belonging to AA, A~I A~I, A~cu A~cu, BBCC, CC, CCDD, EE and FF genome types respectively). This was done by using quantitative filter hybridization technique named'SLOT-BLOTTING'. The result shows that pRRD9 copy number is markedly variable between cultivated and wild rice entr...
