Abstract:

Four cardenolides were obtained from the latex of Antiaris toxicaria (Pers.) Lesch. On the basis of spectral data, they were identified as strophanthojavoside (1), convallatoxin (2), strophalloside (3), and glucostrophanthidin (4). Compound 4 was isolated from Antiaris toxicaria for the first time. Compounds 1~4 showed significant inhibitory activity towards chronic myelogenous leukemia (K562), human gastric carcinoma (SGC-7901), and human hepatoma (SMMC-7721) cell lines.
