Abstract:Canopy gap，mainly caused by small scale of disturbance，plays all important role in forest regeneration cycle. Gaps increase species diversity of forest communities through the heterogeneity of the habitat, which effect species composition，forest structure，dynamics，and the biodiversity in forests. In this paper，a review of the study on gap characteristics， gap-phase regeneration, dynamic models in gap researches, as well as gap theotry is presented.
